April 24, 2011 – A day at the Grand Canyon

May 6th, 2011 § 0 comments § permalink

Our day included a 4.8 mile, 3 hour round trip hike on the South Kaibab Trail to Cedar Point in the canyon; steep with expansive views. We reached Cedar Point after about an hour and then the hike back up took us about 2 hours. Of course Marty could have done it much faster but he was hampered by his slow climbing companion!! The temperature is much higher in the canyon than on the rim. I spoke to a man who had been to the canyon floor early in April some years ago and he said that it was 17 degrees fahrenheit at the rim and when he reached the bottom of the canyon it was 7o degrees fahrenheit.Cloud shadows played across the soft blues, greens and browns in the canyon; the day was sunny,  the gusty winds chilly and cooling for those of us hot from climbing.

After watching a movie at the Visitor Information Centre we hopped on and off the shuttle and did some walks along the rim of the canyon.
